We here at Mad Mercs Airsoft reviews have been supplied these boots to review. Here is what we found when we did the 5.11 style 9” Tactical HRT Urban boots review:
The item was supplied by Airsoft Club from Hong Kong, Once again I dealt with “Dennis” and after getting my email to stop showing up as spam on their email filters I was able to happily discuss these items that I was interested in. The pair of boots I went to order had shown up as out of stock the moment I went to order. Things like this happen and Dennis happily suggested a similar boot that I would be happy with.
The four items that I received from Airsoft Club were not all that well packaged in my opinion. There was a small piece of bubble wrap to stop the items moving hugely but the boots were able to move in the box should the parcel company decide to throw the package about. However none of the items arrived damaged.
The item was shipped via Hong Kong Airmail and took about 10 working days to arrive. The item was able to be tracked, however I wasn’t supplied this tracking number. This is no problem as it got here safely.
My 1st impressions of the boots were that you could not tell these apart from the genuine items. They looked well constructed. The boots have a horrible smell. I have them in my shoe closet and they have already made the whole closet smell of new leather and polish. Looking at the boots more closely I couldn’t find any missed stitching and the soles looked very sturdy, but they offer a good amount of padding on the heal to absorb impact from walking and running. Inside the boot where the arch of the foot sits there is a large lump that when putting the boots on make you feel uncomfortable in the boots. This however flattens to mould to the shape of your foot as soon as you stand up and gives remarkably very good comfort.
The fitment of the boots was a lot easier than the last pair of boots that I had reviewed, on these boots there was a tab as the back to help with fitting of the boots. You do have to undo the laces all the way down to get these on comfortable as the ankle strapping is very tight, I don’t say this is bad as you need all the ankle support you can get in a pair of boots. Getting the boots back off is the harder part but just get them on a rounded off step and they pull off with little trouble. Don’t use a sharp corner on a step though as you will rip the leather surface.
These boots are not the best boots for comfort if you have a wide front foot area. One of the boots gave me adequate space for my feet, but my right foot seemed to rub up against the side of the boot causing my little toe to become very sore at the end of the day. After the next wearing of these boots they were a lot more comfortable than the first use. I made sure I didn’t lace the bottom of the boot up as tight as before and this helped with the comfort and they were not lose as the ankle support was very tight and gave me great support,
I have worn these boots as walking boots and seem to be very sturdy, I have done a separate test at my last skirmish with mud, impact and water and the results are as follows:
Mud: the mud sticks to the rubber parts of the boots but around the proper leather areas it cleans off with no effort at all.
Impact: the boots withstood repeated jumps, running and other day to day skirmish activities, they absorbed running over rough ground really well and to be honest these are a lot more comfortable than the army issue boots that I previously used.
Water: The boots are not as waterproof as my army issue boots, but these withstood the occasional run through a puddle without absorbing the water.
Here at Mad Mercs Airsoft reviews we do like these boots and here is what we thought for this review.
These are very nice boots for the price and very comfortable when fitted correctly and not over tightened. Durability over many skirmishes cannot be determined from the first 2 uses.
I don’t think the boots offer anywhere near as good a comfort or durability of the genuine 5.11 boots, but for fraction of the cost these will do for most Airsoft players. Even with myself I can see these being perfect for myself for all but the wettest and muddiest days of woodland Airsoft skirmishing.
I would like to add that although these are great in a woodland environment, they don’t offer the best grip in muddy condition as these are designed for urban use mainly.
Build Quality (visual) 8/10
